KINDNESS DAY 2020
At the beginning of 2020,
the world was faced with a pandemic that swept through countries indiscriminately. With a stay-at-home order in place in most states, companies were shutting down, jobs were transitioned online, people were to remain 6 feet apart while wearing a mask and just about every event in the country was canceled to help stop the spread.
It was then, more than ever, that Resort 2 Kindness focused on our annual platform, The Year of Gratitude—a time for the R2K community to appreciate all we have to be grateful for. Even in a time of uncertainty and despair, we see each moment as a gift when we open our hearts to the possibilities of living gratefully and choosing kindness because the one thing that Covid-19 couldn’t cancel was kindness – and our annual Kindness Day.
Every year on April 24th, Resort 2 Kindness takes the day to celebrate Kindness Day, which is also the birthday of our founder, Elva Pellouchoud. This giving initiative is held each year in honor of Elva and was created to carve out a volunteer day that encourages—and provides an opportunity for—individuals to spread kindness and cheer within the community.
This year was special for us, as we were able to make a difference again for our friends at MorningStar Senior Living in Boulder, CO. Two years ago, we threw a holiday party for the residences and had the best time decorating cookies, listening to carolers and getting to know the seniors that lived there. But this year, because of the stay-at-home order, senior living homes were not able to allow any visitors to come into their facility for the safety of their residents. So, although we weren’t able to go and see the seniors, we knew there had to be a way we could make a difference and bring some joy into their day.
The Resort 2 Kindness community came together and decided to send the 89 residents and 81 employees at MorningStar homemade cards, letters, poems, art and stickers to let them know we’re thinking about them and sending joy and happiness their way. Even though our team was working remote from all over the country, it was an opportunity for us to come together to make a small difference for the lives of these seniors and employees who were truly grateful for our kind thoughts.
The whole mission behind R2K is to inspire people to make the world a better and kinder place for the people of today, as well as the generations of tomorrow. If you’re interested in making a difference in your community or inspired to send some cheer to others, reach out to your local senior living home and see if they’re able to except letters. It’s that easy!
Resort 2 Kindness would like to thank the staff at MorningStar Senior Living and employees all over the world for their hard work in uplifting the spirits for our seniors every day. A BIG shout out to our R2K Kindness Champions for making Kindness Day 2020 extra special.
